About this hotel

An all-inclusive mini village with 355 rooms spread across five, two-storey-high blocks that revolve around a huge central swimming pool. With an impressive list of facilities and endless Butlins-style entertainment, Club Hotel appeals to those seeking sun and fun.

Hotel/Riad Location

Situated just northeast of the Medina in the Palmeraie. It’s a 20-minute drive to the Djemaa el-Fna. A free shuttle runs back and forth to the Medina but needs to be booked in advance.

Accomodation’s Design

Surrounding a lake-like central pool this enormous boxy hotel has the feel of a holiday camp with pop music playing around the pool all day and a relentlessly enthusiastic entertainment team scouring sunbeds to sign up willing participants to aqua zumba and art classes. Joining in the carnival spirit of the place is a prerequisite for enjoyment. Public rooms and restaurants come on a huge scale in order to accommodate hundreds of guests. It’s fun, friendly and functional, but lacks any real Moroccan character.

Services and Amenities

Facilities are extensive and include indoor and outdoor (unheated) pools, kids’ pool, tennis courts, billiards, a fitness centre, a wellness centre with 11 massage rooms, three restaurants, three bars, a kids’ club and daily activity programmes. In the evenings, the Animation team puts on rather old-fashioned, themed entertainment shows. Those seeking something more low-key should retreat to the outside bar where resident musicians play a mix of current and classic hits on acoustic guitars. Staff are numerous, friendly and professional, and most of them are old hands here.

Suites and Rooms

There are 355 contemporary guest ‘units’ situated in a variety of two-storey blocks. Those looking for peace and quiet should request rooms further away from the pool. Rooms are large with small terraces or balconies and are furnished in an unexceptional corporate style in tones of taupe and chocolate. All of them, including the suites, feature twin beds pushed together and unforgivingly firm mattresses. Wi-Fi, satellite TV, air-conditioning and an empty mini-fridge are standard although a two-litre bottle of water is provided daily.

Hospitality and Cuisine

Food is served from 6am to 10pm in three restaurants and beside the pool. All meals are buffet style and prepared on a grand scale so the quality tends towards mediocre. Breakfast offers all the usual suspects – pastries, pancakes and the full English, including sausages and bacon. The main buffet serves a variety of international fare, including pizza and burgers. Alternatively, there’s an Italian and Moroccan restaurant, which need to be booked in advance. Local spirits and wine are served, but cocktails dispensed on tap are tooth-achingly sweet.

Special Needs Access

The hotel is a contemporary complex with sloped access to all areas and accessible ground floor rooms.

Is this place family-friendly?

There are endless activities and classes to keep kids busy. In the school holidays there’s a club for kids aged 4-12 years old, and there’s a dedicated kids’ pool. The lack of drinks and snacks in the rooms can be a problem and there’s nowhere to shop nearby, so come prepared.
