Morocco Discoveries
Once you land at the Mohamed V Airport in Casablanca, your guide will meet you at your arrival gate to take you immediately to check-in to your hotel in Moulay Idriss Zerhoune. This is a beautiful drive of about 125 miles through the lush farms and exotic plants leading from Casablanca to Rabat.
You will reach Moulay Idriss, an ancient city on Mount Zerhoune, shy of modern times. It is sacred to Moroccans as the first Islamic settlement founded by Moulay Idriss in the 8th century. Check in and relax for the remainder of the morning. After midday meal, your guide will take you on a historical tour of the holy city of Moulay Idriss Zerhoune. This town is the cradle of the spiritual life of Moroccans, open to non-Muslims only in 2005. Pilgrims come to this town from all over North Africa and the Middle East, seeking healing power in its shrines. This a medieval mountain town, and to visit is to hike up and down narrow streets and steep stairs. But the city itself is a medieval jewel set on the peak of Mount Zerhoune. This a great place to start our Morocco walking tour. Dinner and accommodation will be at a Guesthouse.
The morning will be devoted to a historical walking tour of Moulay Idriss with your local guide, then hiking in the Mount Zerhoune old footpaths exploring Sufi Retreat places in ancient Olive groves. Visit the ancient Roman Ruins, The holy caves, then continue walking along the Fertassa stream. We will take a break for midday meal in the village of Ain Karma. Hop in your Van and on to the Hot Springs of Moulay Yacoub. Enjoy the Spa before and after dinner if you wish. Lodging will be in a guesthouse.
After morning meal, we will walk and ride horses down the Tghat Valley, crossing wheat fields and lushly terraced plots to Mount Zalagh, where we will take a climb to Sidi Ahmed Bernoussi Mausoleum, where Jajouka musicians will receive us. We will spread Berber rugs under the thousand-year-old Dardar Trees and feast on a festive midday meal in nature. A couscous will be prepared for us by a Berber family compound and brought to us as the traditional hospitality calls for when visitors come to this shrine. After our couscous midday meal, followed by a mint tea traditional ceremony, we will proceed with our quest to explore Mount Zalagh. Enjoy an afternoon trekking the slopes of Mount Zalagh with your guide. Dinner and accommodation will be at a luxurious Riad in Fes.
A full day will be devoted to your historical walking tour of the Medina of Fez. Undeniably fascinating, Fez stimulates the senses with its haunting yet beautiful sounds, visual splendor, and evocative smells. The most ancient of the imperial capitals and the most complete medieval city of the Islamic world, Fez is reminiscent of a city suspended in time, unfazed by the constantly evolving world outside its walls. Fez owes nothing to the modern world, save electricity. Fez is not only the heartbeat of Morocco but a world heritage of humanity.
Retreat to the road in the late afternoon. The Dinner will be at the riad. All your encounters will be in the most authentic fashion as locals do.
Travel the back roads to Chefchaouen, exploring vistas and landscapes unique to the Rif Mountains North of Morocco. Chefchaouen is one of the best white towns in the Mediterranean, a Moorish emblem of purity and sophistication. Your local guide will take you around its narrow streets and vibrant markets. Check in to your guesthouse in the heart of Talassmatane National Park. Enjoy nature at its best in these high evergreen cedar forests discovering the rural environs of the Atlas Mountains' Berber villages, wards, and nomadic settlements. Covered with evergreen pines, tall cedar trees, and poplars with flowing streams, your first view of the Atlas Mountains will appear oddly un-Moroccan. Your guide will introduce you to this environment of Mountaineers and their culture, not to forget the wildlife of these rugged mountains.
Your local guide will meet you in the morning at the lobby of your hotel to take you walking visit to historic Chefchaouen. Then continue to Rabat, where a ranch will cook midday meal for you. An opportunity is given to those who like to ride horses to explore the cork pines valley of Menzah. Others can enjoy the ranch atmosphere. Dinner will be on the ranch.
We will take you to Casablanca airport to connect for your flight back home. Assist you with checking and bid you goodbye. Thank you for visiting Morocco.
