Named for three sleek, black doorways that take you far from the madding crowd and beyond the Kasbah walls into a magical place where jungle-like terraces tumble down to the sea and a jumble of rooms crammed with antiques and curios beg you to go exploring. If you’re looking for eye candy, you just found it.
Less than a three-minute walk from the nearest parking and the main entrance to the Kasbah proper. Once through its keyhole arches you’ll find some of the neighbourhood’s classiest haunts: Topolina for summer kaftans, the rooftop terrace of the Nord Pinus for a fancy sundowner, and El Morocco Club for a killer steak frites.
Think maximalism in spades – acres of pink, red and purple, richly embroidered Fassi upholstery, a giant pouffe on the living room floor sheathed in velvet leopard skin, vintage Ikats used as wallpaper, vases of fossilised coral and glass cabinets stuffed with every imaginable curio. It’s an eclectic eyeful that fits together very comfortably, and extends into tropical-feeling gardens dotted with stone sculptures and a series of intimate terraces.
Eager to please, but tricky to pin down when you need something, which doesn’t quite tally with the sumptuousness of the surrounds. There are, after all, two gloriously super-sized living rooms replete with squishy sofas and log fires – laid but not lit on a chilly autumn night – a cosy dining room and the cutest, pint-sized massage room and hammam you ever did see (spied only on check out). In the shade of the garden butterfly chairs are aligned with views across the water all the way to Spain and sun beds sprawl around a kidney-bean shaped pool. What you want is to revel in the glorious laid-back luxury of it all, but hands-off staff make it difficult to completely relax.
Fun and flirtatious, just crying out for a romantic weekend. Standard doubles are small, but forgivably so because four-poster beds, walnut desks and bright green, velvet chaise longues make getting closer the obvious thing to do. Ideally though, check in to the Iris Suite, which is spacious and elegant with a secluded terrace overlooking the sea. There is no TV, though the Wi-Fi is good, and no tea and coffee facilities which is a shame, because come morning these are the sorts of beds you want to loll about in.
Nothing says weekend away better than sitting on a balmy terrace overlooking a harbour as the sun sets, ideally with a GandT in your paw. Or, if the nights are chillier, sipping a glass of wine by the fire before dinner. Unfortunately, and this is no fault of the hotel, alcohol is not served, but it does lack a certain something for it. Much is made of the restaurant locally, but on this particular evening no menu was presented, and the watery chicken tagine wasn’t terribly inspiring.
Breakfast is better – piles of freshly made Moroccan breads and pastries, eggs on request, and buckets of mint tea.
